My Story

Margaret Helen, known as "Maggie," was born and raised in Laredo, TX. She earned her first degree in Criminal Justice from Laredo College and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Texas A&M International University in 2015. She then moved to San Antonio, TX, to complete her Master’s Degree in Psychology with a focus on Family, Couples, and Individual Psychotherapy from Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) in 2019.

Margaret began her career at Border Region Behavioral Health Center as a Qualified Mental Health Professional and crisis worker. Being bilingual, Maggie was able to assist both English and Spanish-speaking clients. She then moved to San Antonio after being hired by The Center for Health Care Services as a clinician with the Genesis program, working with federal probation and parole clients.

During this time, Maggie enrolled in the graduate program at OLLU and began her journey as a therapist. At OLLU, she was fortunate to have professors and supervisors who taught her how to navigate and conduct therapy using various modalities. She interned at the Rape Crisis Center until her graduation. After receiving her Master’s degree, she began working with BCFS – Transitional Foster Care, assisting unaccompanied minors and using her bilingual skills. She later returned to the Rape Crisis Center to continue helping those with a history of trauma.

Maggie has interned for the STEP Program with Juvenile Probation, the Rape Crisis Center, Community Counseling Service, and Driggers Elementary Counseling. Her work experience has given her a wide range of opportunities to counsel couples, families, children, adolescents, and adults. She has expertise in trauma, PTSD, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, self-esteem, multigenerational challenges, sexual assault, human trafficking, life transitions, and grief. Maggie also has experience working with members of the queer community through all stages of their identity exploration and acceptance. She is knowledgeable in various relationship practices, including monogamous and alternative styles such as polyamory, kink, long-distance, and open relationships.

Margaret is an eclectic therapist who uses techniques from evidence-based theories such as collaborative therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). She believes in providing a safe and judgment-free space for her clients to process and work through any struggles they may be facing.
